Four open races at Sheffield tonight form the heart of our latest greyhound tips. There are a couple of old favourites on the card, as well as a puppy race which should provide plenty of clues for the year ahead.
Jenny to Continue her Hot Run
Twice a winner at this track in September, Acomb Jenny bounced back to form for Kevin Ferguson with a success here two starts back, following up at Newcastle last time out.
She is a bitch who blows hot and cold, tending to do her winning in bunches. As such, while she is in form, it’s worth supporting her again in the 19.58 to use her early pace to get around in front.
Perfect Draw for Tess
Droopys Tess is unexposed as a stayer at Sheffield, just two starts producing a win and a second when beaten only a length. A slow starter inside her at 20.46 and one who lacks a look at Sheffield outside makes this look an ideal draw.
Phil Barlow’s charge has the 6 to beat, that rival taking well to the step up to this trip, beating a smart yardstick at Newcastle last time. He is another who lacks a previous viewing of this track, however, so the local knowledge Tess has can make the difference.
Holman’s Warrior has Found his Trapping Boots
It was back in the summer that Easy Warrior came of age, winning four on the bounce, culminating in a success over this 500m. Despite that, it has not been until much more recently that Gavin Holman’s charge has learnt to trap more consistently.
He was a hugely impressive winner here last week, stopping the clock in a slick 28.54. A repeat of that in the 21.01 would set too high a standard for his rivals to compete with.
Miguel could be a Pup to Follow
Sean Parker looks to have a nice pup on his hands with Lightfoot Miguel, running at 18.34. An eye-catching winner last week on just his third career start, he produced a decent time for one with so little experience.
He will need to come away in a similar fashion tonight to beat the 1 to the punch. That hound is well drawn on the inside and looks the danger to the selection.
Grayson Feeling Fine with Rhyme
An A3 contest at 20.27 can go the way of Tullymurry Rhyme for Kirsty Grayson. A June ‘20 whelp, she has only had two starts at this track so far, winning the pair of them.
She steps up into a much tougher contest now but she has blown apart the lower grades by wide margins and her best time of 29.40 marks her out as a leading contender even at this better level.
