Always one of the high points of the year at Romford, the Golden Sprint over 400m has six heats this evening.
Some of the quickest dogs in the country line up in what looks a typically strong renewal.
Janssens’ Sprinter to Leave Them in the Dust
It’s only five days since Crossfield Dusty won the final of the £10,000 Northamptonshire Sprint at Towcester for Patrick Janssens.
He’s the type who takes his racing well though and needs to be kept busy to stop from boiling over.
He takes on Havana Class again, the runner-up to him on Sunday, so the final heat of the Golden Sprint at 20.17 looks the top race of the round.
Dusty hasn’t been around Romford since September, but he’s an adaptable type and that shouldn’t be an issue.
Rosie Continues to Blossom
Paul Burr must be over the moon with Zari Rosie who has found a rich vein of form around this track so far in 2021. She overcame a much wider draw last Friday night, but should be far better suited to the return to trap 1 in the 19.18.
This is the same box that she won the £3,000 Coral Maiden from at the end of January when dipping under 24 seconds for the first time here. She has done it again since, which sets a strong standard for the others to aim at.
Cahill’s Jet to Add to his Wins
Last autumn, Drahan Jet made the semi-final stage of the Laurels at Cork. That is amongst the most prestigious competitions in the Irish calendar, always attracting a strong field.
He won his first two starts for Seamus Cahill at this track, rather unlucky in his run last week. If things fall a bit better for him here, then he can get himself back on the scoresheet in the 19.56.
Mullins to Enjoy Another Slapup Feast
As expected, Ballymac Slapup improved massively for the refresher of this track a fortnight back to score here a week ago. That should put him spot on for this competition for trainer John Mullins.
He is drawn right on the rails at 18.58 tonight, the same draw that saw him produce his best run at this track back in September.
This is a decent field in here against him but he can use his size to make room for himself at the bend before kicking on down the back.
Romeo to Land his Maiden Final
Away from the Golden Sprint heats, Emers Romeo makes most appeal on the card in the maiden 400m final at 20.38 for Paul Donovan. He was an impressive winner in his heat last week, three lengths quicker than any of his opponents.
That was just his second try at this track, a trial and then that race so there could easily be more to come from him. Given his superiority over these from last time, that should make him hard to beat.
