Kickers may not always steal the headlines, but their impact on the game is undeniable. While quarterbacks and star defenders dominate the conversation, kickers operate under intense pressure, with their careers often hanging on a single miss.
A brief slump can see them cast aside, yet the great ones rise above the scrutiny, delivering when it matters most. Some have even etched their names into history with remarkable consistency.
Not all kickers have endured that punishment, though, particularly the successful ones, and we have taken a look at the record for most consecutive field goals made in NFL history.
Adam Vinatieri – 44 Field Goals
Vinatieri is considered one of the greatest NFL kickers of all time, and he remains the league’s all-time leading scorer with 2,673 points.
He was originally drafted by the New England Patriots but also enjoyed a spell with the Indianapolis Colts.
Vinatieri is the only player to score 1,000 points for two different franchises, and his record for consecutive field goals still stands at 44 after an incredible streak between 2015 and 2016.
Mike Vanderjagt – 42 Field Goals
The Colts have a rich history of picking successful Field Goal kickers, with Vanderjagt’s effort only two behind Vinatieri’s benchmark.
Canadian Vanderjagt enjoyed a landmark year in 2003 when he became the first kicker to convert every field goal and point after touchdown attempt during both the regular season and in the playoffs, helping his record reach 42.
Unlike Vinatieri, however, he failed to win a Super Bowl, and he stopped playing in the NFL in 2006 after he was cut by the Dallas Cowboys.
Gary Anderson – 40 Field Goals
Only Morten Andersen and Vinatieri have scored more points in the NFL than Anderson, and his consistent spell in front of the posts came across two teams.
He played in the NFL for 23 seasons and was the first South African to play in a regular-season match.
In 1998, he became the first NFL kicker to kicker to convert every field goal and extra point in the regular season, but he missed a crucial field goal in the 1998 NFC Championship Game, which the Vikings lost 30-27.
Graham Gano – 37 Field Goals
Gano is still playing in the NFL today, and his streak of 37 consecutive Field Goals was made for his current club, the New York Giants.
The 35-year-old was drafted by Baltimore Ravens in 2009, but now seems to have found a home in New York.
In October 2021, he missed a 35-yard field goal against the New Orleans Saints, which saw his personal best end at 37.
Jason Myers – 37 Field Goals
Gano is tied with Jason Myers on 37, with the latter also still playing in the NFL.
The 31-year-old is a member of the Seattle Seahawks roster and has been since 2019.
He is in his second spell with Seattle, but he tied for the fourth-longest streak in NFL history in 2021 before his miss against the Minnesota Vikings cost him the chance to climb above Gano in the record books.
Brandon Aubrey – 35 Field Goals
Dallas Cowboys kicker Brandon Aubrey made history in his rookie NFL season, nailing 35 consecutive field goals in 2023.
The 28-year-old set the record for the longest streak to open a rookie campaign before his run ended against Washington on January 7, 2024, but he still wrapped up the campaign with an impressive 36 successful kicks out of 38 attempts.
