The Cheltenham cross country started as a place filler in 2015 when an extra day was added to the festival. In 2016, the race became a Conditions Race where weights are added to horses according to certain conditions.
The prize money here is a huge £65,000, and none of the horses are younger than five-years-old.
The latter condition is challenging and really tests the horse’s stamina, the jockey’s skill, and the trainer’s diligence.
Cross Country Chase: Tips and Predictions
Note: the predictions below refer to the 2021 running of this race – preview will be updated closer to the beginning of the 2022 Cheltenham Festival.
It looks very much like Tiger Roll has lost his way, though a bounce-back would be some thrill for the little legend today. Last year’s winner Easysland will triumph again if he’s in the same form but his trainer has endured a tough winter and it would have been encouraging to see him have a prep run.
SOME NECK won a C&D handicap earlier in the season on his first try at this unique challenge and offers the each-way alternative to the market leader.

Cross Country Chase: Recent Winners
Easysland beat Tiger Roll with a whole 17 lengths last time around, which really was one for the books.
Despite Tiger Roll’s Cross Country shortcomings, he has been very successful elsewhere, so this loss, while quite telling of Mcmanus’ new flame, is barely indicative of Tiger Roll.
