The second afternoon of action from Glorious Goodwood on Wednesday afternoon features the Group 1 Qatar Sussex Stakes as the main attraction.

Our tipster takes a race-by-race look at the day two Glorious Goodwood card.

1.50 – Unibet ’15 To Go’ Handicap (1m4f)

Things didn’t quite work out for KINGS PRINCE in the Listed Glasgow Stakes at Hamilton recently. He was perhaps too free early on in front and subsequently paid for it. Mark Johnston’s son of Kingman had looked a nice prospect when winning his first two starts, however, and could quickly get back on track now entering handicaps for the first time.

Selection: Kings Prince @ 15/2

2.25 – Whispering Angel Oak Tree Stakes (Fillies’ & Mares’ Group 3, 7f)

Last year’s runner-up VALERIA MESSALINA could go one better for in-form trainer Jessica Harrington. Her form after being thwarted in the dying embers by One Master in this race last year suggested a mile stretches her stamina. This trip could be perfect and Shane Foley’s mount comes here after a good run at Fairyhouse recently. Sacred – also down in trip – can be amongst the key dangers if recapturing her Nell Gwyn form.

Selection: Valeria Messalina @ 13/2

3.00 – Markel Molecomb Stakes (Group 3, 5f)

Many have and will be scared off by the softer ground on offer at Goodwood but that’s not going to bother FEARBY for the Ed Bethell yard in the Molecomb. He made short work of his rivals in the Listed Dragon Stakes at Sandown (5f, soft) recently – including Mojomaker and Kaboo – and has scope for plenty more progress. Chipotle is a threat but underfoot conditions are a total unknown for him.

Selection: Fearby @ 15/8

3.35 – Qatar Sussex Stakes (Group 1, 1m)

POETIC FLARE was nothing short of spell-binding in the St James’s Palace Stakes last month at Royal Ascot. No matter how you slice the race – times/winning distances – it was stunning. He thrashed his main 3YO peers and did so in a fashion that would have set up a mouthwatering tussle with Europe’s top miler Palace Pier here had the latter not missed out following a setback. Jim Bolger’s 2000 Guineas winner is on track for Group 1 win number three of the season and ground conditions won’t faze him. Snow Lantern may do best of the fillies’, while Tilsit won the Summer Mile recently and has each-way possibilities.

Selection: Poetic Flare @ 11/10

4.10 – British Stallion Studs Alice Keppel EBF Fillies’ Conditions Stakes (5f)

Ground conditions are key to all ideas currently and FLOTUS looked a smart prospect when stretching clear to win over 6f on soft here in May on debut for Simon & Ed Crisford. It didn’t work out in the Albany at Ascot but she improved on that in a Newmarket Group 2 this month when fifth behind the impressive Sandrine. Sights are lowered and Frankie Dettori’s mount should be in the mix back here down to 5f.

Selection: Flotus @ 7/2

4.45 – British Ebf Premier Fillies’ Handicap (1m2f)

Achelois had something to spare winning at Ascot earlier in the month and could go well again but the unexposed TIMELESS SOUL is preferred. Roger Varian’s Night Of Thunder filly won well on this ground at Beverley in May and ran well under a penalty afterwards at Thirsk. She moves into handicaps here and could be a big improver.

Selection: Timeless Soul @ SP

5.20 – World Pool Handicap (7f)

Mark Johnston’s DUTCH DECOY hasn’t had too many starts on grass and just appeared to shape as if he’d be sharper for last week’s comeback run at Lingfield where he tired on the turf track very late on. He ought to handle the conditions underfoot and should give a solid account at a track where the Middleham handler traditionally does well.

Selection: Dutch Decoy @ SP
