Burnley vs Sunderland Analysis

Burnley

Burnley overcame a tough test at Reading (3-1) in their last assignment, though they needed extra time to see off the spirited Royals in the FA Cup and fatigue could be an issue on Friday. In the Championship, the Clarets have gone 13 games without tasting defeat and they kept an impressive ten clean sheets during that unbeaten surge.

Scott Parker’s Burnley are one of only two teams in the division with an unbeaten home record in the second tier this season, though goal-scoring has been an issue at the other end. The Clarets managed to score just once in their last three matches combined, though they are still clear favourites to win on Friday with most sites for sports betting.

Team news: Manuel Benson and Aaron Ramsey are both considered doubtful and could miss Friday’s game for Burnley.

Predicted Lineup: Trafford, Roberts, Egan-Riley, Esteve, Humphreys, Cullen, Laurent, Anthony, Brownhill, Sarmiento, Flemming

Sunderland

Sunderland limped out of the FA Cup last weekend following an extra-time defeat to Stoke (2-1). Developments have been more positive in the Championship for the Black Cats of late however, and Sunderland are chasing their third win on the spin in the division having seen off Sheffield United and Portsmouth in successive league fixtures.

The promotion challengers have won only once in seven attempts on the road however, and their away form will need to improve. Indeed, Sunderland’s habit of dropping points on their travels has earned them the underdogs tag for Friday’s game on football betting sites.

Team news: Sunderland could be without the services of Jenson Seelt and Ahmed Abdullahi. Alan Browne is a confirmed absentee, though new signing Enzo Le Fee could feature for the first time.

Predicted Lineup: Patterson, Hume, Mepham, O’Nien, Alese, Neil, Bellingham, Roberts, Mayenda, Aouchiche, Isidor

Burnley vs Sunderland Stats and Trends

  • Sunderland beat Burnley 1-0 when the teams last met in August.
  • Burnley avoided defeat in each of their last 12 home games in the Championship.
  • Sunderland have won only one of their last seven away fixtures in the league.
  • Sunderland striker Wilson Isidor has scored three times in his last four appearances in the Championship.

Burnley vs Sunderland Prediction

Burnley (2nd) have been in top form for an extended period and have put together a 14-match unbeaten run in league and cup since early November. The Clarets have yet to suffer a defeat at Turf Moor in the Championship and they can harness home advantage again here.

Sunderland (4th) consider themselves automatic promotion contenders, however, their return of just one win from their last seven away games in the Championship suggests they are poor travellers and in-form Burnley can take advantage.

Prediction: Burnley to win – 6/5 (+120) – Betzone

Burnley vs Sunderland – The Ultimate Bet:

Under 2.5 goals – 8/15 (-188)

Burnley have been rock-solid defensively this season, conceding just nine goals in their first 26 Championship fixtures, though their focus on keeping things tight at the back has come at a cost at the other end.

The Clarets’ fixtures are notoriously low on excitement and 21 of their first 26 league matches of the campaign featured under 2.5 goals, with the same matches averaging just 1.54 goals per 90 minutes. Odds are on the tight side here, but there is still enough value in backing unders again with Betzone at 8/15 (-188).
