Horse Racing Tips, Predictions & Best Bets – 03/11

MansionBet - Horse Racing Best Bets

Punters have a quartet of meetings to look forward to today with Sunday’s race card split evenly between events in the UK and Ireland at Carlisle, Huntingdon, Cork and The Curragh. Ahead of the action, we’ve been knee-deep in the formbooks and markets to fish out three prime horse racing betting tips for the day’s action. You can read our latest offering below.

Best Tip #1: Merisi Diamond – The Curragh, 13:25

Merisi Diamond is a dual-course winner and has tasted C&D success before who is primed to go well again in ideal conditions at The Curragh. The 5-year-old was in action at this course just a few weeks ago, finishing second by a short head on that occasion over a trip of 6f.

The handicappers have inched him up by 3lb for today’s effort, however, Merisi Diamond should be heavily involved again.

Mrs J Harrington’s Dark Viper is another name to size up on horse racing betting sites. He’s hit the post in five of his last six starts, finishing second each time and a win feels a little overdue for the 3-year-old.

Jockey KG Kennedy brings a useful 7lb claimer to today’s proceedings, giving Dark Viper’s chances an extra boost.

Best Tip #2: Gorgeous Tom – Cork, 14:42

Gorgeous Tom has won three times in four outings before falling at Tipperary when last seen, though he is taken to keep his footing in a bounce-back display at Cork here.

Henry De Bromhead’s charge went off as favourite at Tipperary last month, but toppled at the ninth, allowing today’s rival Shecouldbeanything to claim the spoils. Nevertheless, there was reason for his favouritism then and now he has a chance to prove his mettle.

Jesse Evans meanwhile, saw off a challenge from Shecouldbeanything when winning at Galway in early September and will compete against the same opponent 6lb better off in today’s event.

Noel Meade’s 8-year-old didn’t pull up trees in a busy 30-horse race at The Curragh (16th) last time out, but should have more room to manoeuvre today.

Best Roughie: Lunar Discovery – Carlisle, 14:53

Lunar Discovery has been lightly-raced this year, though she has a good record behind her and was a consistent sort this time last year when winning back-to-back races at Hexham and following up with successive second places at Haydock and Carlisle.

She pulled up on her last outing at Doncaster in March, but could have something to offer with a big price on betting apps on her return to action here.

El Elefante is another name of interest in today’s fifth race at Carlisle. The solid novice hurdler enjoyed wins at Ayr in March and at Worcester in October, and put in a decent shift to finish fourth at Perth the last time she tried her hand at a Class 1 grade. The progressive mare should like today’s 2m 3f trip and enters calculations.

Stats and Insights

  • The Curragh is one of the more unique tracks on the Irish circuit and stamina is a useful attribute to bring to Kildare due to the tough uphill finish there. Trainers AP O’Brien, JP O’Brien, Mrs John Harrington, JP Murtagh and GM Lyons are the names to look out for at The Curragh.
  • The hurdles track at Cork is fair, level and gives most horse types a shot at success. Jockeys Paul Townend, Sean O’Keefe, Phillip Enright and Danny Mullins all know what it takes to win at Cork and all four are in action at today’s meeting.
  • The pear-shaped track at Carlisle poses an unusual challenge and the winning post arrives after a lengthy, gentle incline. Trainers Donald McCain and Nicky Richards have been the best performers over the last five seasons at Carlisle.
