Horse Racing Tips, Predictions & Best Bets – 17/10

MansionBet - Horse Racing Best Bets

Punters have a bumper Thursday race card to look forward to today with meetings due to take place across the UK and Ireland at Brighton, Carlisle, Chelmsford, Southwell, Wincanton and The Curragh.

Yesterday, we landed yet another winner thanks to Double Powerful’s triumph at Worcester, while another of our three picks placed (Minella Indo, Punchestown). Let’s hope our horse racing betting tips below yield similar results.

Best Tip #1:  Irish Lullaby – Carlisle, 16:15

A solid performer on the flat, Irish Lullaby has shown potential over hurdles of late as evidenced by her back-to-back wins at Warwick and Cartmel in her last two outings in May.

The Greenall & Guerriero-trained 5-year-old should be nice and fresh today following a lengthy absence and she could pick up where she left off while equipped with workable opening hurdle mark.

Allbetsoff is another interesting contender albeit at a bigger price on horse racing betting sites in the UK.

A two-time winner already this year following victories at Hexham in June and Uttoxeter in July, the 8-year-old is an experienced handicap hurdler who should be comfortable in today’s company. Allbetsoff could defy his unkind price to make an impact here.

Best Tip #2: Romanovich – Brighton, 16:20

Romanovich saw plenty of late-summer action and delivered the goods on a couple of occasions, most notably over 1m at Brighton on August 7th.

Another win was posted at Chepstow over a shorter 7f trip the same month and the 5-year-old returned to Brighton to finish second when last seen in September. Romanovich’s form has never been better and another bold bid is anticipated over today’s shorter length.

A challenge could be posed by Otago, meanwhile, who was the winner of last year’s renewal of this race.

The 7-year-old completed a fourth C&D victory when beating all to win at Brighton last month and though he limped to 8th at the same circuit on his last outing, he competes off a 3lb lower mark today and has the potential to bounce back from disappointment.

Best Roughie: Ticktyboo – Southwell, 18:30

Ticktyboo hit the post when finishing second at Newcastle over 5f back in June on his only All-Weather start to date, but produced better to win at Chepstow over the same trip in August.

A poor showing at York on his last run put him back in 13th, but today’s race doesn’t look quite as competitive and the 3-year-old gets the nod as a strong each-way prospect with a meaty starting price.

Elsewhere, Michael Appleby’s Lipsink could be another horse to track on the best betting apps in the UK. The 7-year-old has looked much better since switching stables and a win at Nottingham in June was followed by placed finishes in three races after.

He didn’t shine at Bath in mid-September when last brought to the track but with jockey Tom Marquand in the saddle, anything is possible for Lipsink here.

Stats and Insights

  • Carlisle has been described as a pear-shaped track by some, so turns are gentle there. However, there is a hill to climb to the winning post, so horses with extra stamina can excel. Trainers Donald McCain, Nicky Richards, Jonjo O’Neill, Rebecca Menzies and Rose Dobbin are the names to look out for at Carlisle.
  • Brighton can be a tricky course to conquer due to the tight bends and undulating nature of the south coast track. Jockeys David Probert, Marco Ghiani, Hollie Doyle, Darragh Keenan and Saffie Osborne all have good records at Brighton.
  • The circuit at Southwell is built on a Fibresand surface and as a result, horses need plenty of stamina to stay on there. Michael Appleby has been the most dominant trainer at Southwell over the last five seasons, posting an unmatched 77 wins during that period.
