MansionBet - Horse Racing Best Bets

There are meetings at Chepstow, Kempton, Newmarket, York, Downpatrick and Dundalk across the UK and Ireland for punters to look forward to on Friday, and an action-packed race card should give us plenty of opportunities to land some profit ahead of the weekend. Keep reading to discover our latest horse racing betting tips for Friday’s events.

Best Tip #1:  Portnacoo – Downpatrick, 15:20

Portnacoo returns to familiar surroundings today and a third straight victory at Downpatrick for his in-form charge could be in the offing. The 6-year-old has been with trainer Harry Smith since the late summer and having shown promise on his handicapping bow for his new connections at Sligo (5th) in August, Portnacoo improved to win back-to-back races at Downpatrick.

In this fettle, he has got to be in with a shout of completing a hattrick, despite a 9lb rise.

Three Platoon meanwhile, who comes equipped with a slightly more attractive price on online horse racing betting sites, is also chasing a hattrick having done the business twice in a row at Newcastle.

Three Platoon has only ever won on AW however, and is 0-5 over hurdles so far, however, he has the potential to produce something here.

Best Tip #2: Miss Paloma – Dundalk, 20:30

Henry De Bromhead has a chance to score in the last race of the day at Dundalk with the promising Miss Paloma.

She was a winner at this circuit on two of her last three visits to Louth and finished second at Dundalk when last seen on September 20th. With WJ Lee in the saddle and a kind draw heightening her chances, more success at this track looks possible today.

Elsewhere, Natural Ruler is shaping up like another possible contender. A winner at Fairyhouse over this distance in June, he looked solid when landing in third spot at Dundalk over 1m 3f in late September.

Cheekpieces have been added ahead of today’s bid while the booking of Colin Keane adds a touch of class on board. Expect the 3-year-old to feature.

Best Roughie: Zayer – Newmarket, 13:47

Zayer delivered the goods when beating all to score at Ripon in a maiden race in late August and followed that up with a respectable run to fifth in the Flying Childers at Doncaster shortly after.

The drop to 5f seems to have done the 2-year-old some good and this steady improver looks like a horse on an upward trajectory. Zayer represents an attractive prospect at a big price on sports betting apps today.

Midnight Thunder could be the one to set the standard however, especially with Oisin Murphy in control. The Godolphin colt arrives at Newmarket with back-to-back wins at Windsor and Yarmouth under his belt.

He drops ever so slightly back in trip today, however, he is versatile enough to cope and should be thereabouts if form holds.

Stats and Insights

  • Downpatrick is a narrow setting that features undulations and tight turns so try to avoid horses with longer strides if possible. Gordon Elliott has been the most dominant trainer at Downpatrick over the last five seasons (46 wins).
  • The course at Dundalk is nicely flat and with space to manoeuvre down the home straight, close finishes are common there. Jockeys Colin Keane, Ronan Whelan, WJ Lee, Chris Hayes and Declan McDonogh all have excellent records at Dundalk.
  • Newmarket is made famous by the Rowley Mile and the track’s notorious dip a few furlongs from the winning post. With a century of wins over the last five seasons, Charlie Appleby has been the most prolific trainer at Newmarket by a distance.
