Horse Racing Tips, Predictions & Best Bets – 03/10

MansionBet - Horse Racing Best Bets

Thursday’s race card is a bumper edition and punters have an exciting day of action at the track to look forward to with meetings at Chelmsford, Newcastle, Salisbury, Southwell, Warwick, Bellewstown and Clonmel across the UK and Ireland. As per the usual routine, we’ve compiled a trio of horse racing betting tips for the day’s events below.

Best Tip #1:  Poetic Sound – Bellewstown, 16:15

Ger Lyons’ unexposed gelding Poetic Sound could be the one to back in this 1m 4f flat race at Bellewstown. The 3-year-old finished fourth as favourite at Killarney in a Maiden Auction in July but was much better when beating all to triumph at Roscommon a month later.

There should be more to come from this charge soon and with Colin Keane in the saddle today, more success could be in the works.

Elsewhere, Kevin Coleman’s Akecheta could be worth a market check on the best horse racing betting sites.

The consistent sort has been in the frame in each of her last four races and though she hasn’t won since delivering the goods at Tipperary in May, she shouldn’t be discounted based on her recent solid efforts.

Best Tip #2: Roccovango – Warwick, 14:55

Roccovango’s game has been taken to another level since joining Olly Murphy stable and the rapidly-improving 8-year-old managed to win three of his last four races since the switch and is chasing a fourth triumph on the bounce here.

All of his previous wins came over a similar distance and with cheekpieces on, so expect another bold charge from Roccavango today, despite a 6lb increase.

Dan Skelton’s Asta La Pasta looks best positioned to offer the stiffest challenge, meanwhile.

He won back-to-back races at Market Rasen and Wetherby either side of the turn of the year but struggled on his handicapping debut at Sandown in March (11th). He’s been out of the picture since, but can be expected to make an impact on his return over fences.

Best Roughie: Ascension Day – Southwell, 16:40

This seven-race maiden has been knocking on the door since spring and his form in several races at Southwell between March and May make him a runner of interest in today’s penultimate event at the same circuit.

Ascension Day finished 3-2-2 in his last three outings at Southwell over distances of 2m or longer and competing off an attractive mark here, he looks like an each-way option with credentials on betting apps.

Light Dragon has been earning plenty of backing in the ante-post markets and with jockey Cameron Iles carrying a 7lb claimer, it’s easy to see why expectations are high.

A winner of a Class 4 Novice Maiden ahead of nine others in September, the 6-year-old moves into the handicapping sphere today and should be a major player again.

Stats and Insights

  • Bellewstown is considered a fair setting in the main, however, there are some tough turns to tackle, while the final couple of furlongs are on an incline. Jockeys Colin Keane, Shane Foley, WJ Lee and Gavin Ryan have won numerous races at Bellewstown before and all four are in action today.
  • Agile horses can have a better time of it at Warwick due to the tight nature of the track and the short run-in after the final surge. Dan Skelton, Nicky Henderson, Jonjo O’Neill, Alan King and Fergal O’Brien are the trainers to watch out for at Warwick.
  • Stamina can be a useful attribute to possess at Southwell due to the energy-sapping Fibresand surface at the All-Weather track. Michael Appleby has been the most dominant trainer at Southwell over the last five seasons, posting 77 wins there during that period.
