Horse Racing Tips, Predictions & Best Bets – 17/09

MansionBet - Horse Racing Best Bets

Tuesday’s race card features meetings at Brighton, Newcastle, Redcar, Yarmouth and Punchestown across the UK and Ireland, giving us plenty of scope to identify some top runners to back. As per the usual routine, we’ve assembled a trio of horse racing betting tips for the day’s action, including an 11/1 pick at Yarmouth, and you can check them out below.

Best Tip #1:  Star Harbour – Punchestown, 15:25

Star Harbour has been in solid form since the summer, securing wins at The Curragh over 1m4f in June and over a slightly shorter 1m 1f at Tipperary on August 9th, while a push to second spot at Dundalk last time out while carrying a mark of 105 was also impressive.

Adrian McGuinness’s charge looks like the best candidate from a small field here and is taken to deliver again.

Elsewhere, Akecheta is another name with good credentials. A winner of a Tipperary maiden back in May, the 4-year-old has run twice since, finishing twice on each occasion at Gowran Park and Roscommon.

Outstayed on his last outing, today’s trip could be more suitable and with a tongue tie thrown in for good measure, Akecheta is a player to consider on horse racing betting sites.

Best Tip #2: Saint Riquier – Brighton, 15:50

Saint Riquier breezed home by 10 lengths in an apprentice handicap race at Leicester seven days ago and that win followed hot on the heels of another at Lingfield over a slightly longer distance.

Ian Williams’s red-hot sprinter is on the rise and competing off the same mark at Brighton today, the talented 6-year-old could be too rapid to handle again.

Competition could arrive in the form of James Owen’s Laser Focus. A high roller in the spring, his form tailed off in the summer, however, he drops down a grade today and that could aid his cause.

The booking of Sean D Bowen for the saddle should also enhance Laser Focus’s chances. Tobellino, who finished second at Brighton in August, looks like a good each-way prospect.

Best Roughie: Alcazan – Yarmouth, 16:35

Alcazan won last year’s renewal of this race from a starting price of 40-1 and though she was 5lb lower when she upset the odds 12 months ago, the 6-year-old gets our nod to do good work as an outsider again in 2024.

A back-to-back winner at Ascot and Brighton in the summer, the short-race specialist finished fourth at Goodwood when last seen 14 days ago and she is capable of finishing in the frame here.

Most of the action on betting apps has been moving in Summer Of Love’s direction, however. The lightly-raced 4-year-old beat all in three of her last six races, and while today’s race will be her first attempt at sprinting, she has shaped up like a versatile sort and can threaten.

Oisin Murphy will be on board today and with his experience a factor, Summer Of Love could set the standard.

Stats and Insights

  • Punchestown provides a fair setting and most types have a decent shot at success at the Irish track in County Kildare. Trainer JP O’Brien is usually the biggest hitter at Punchestown during flat seasons, while Willie Mullins has been the dominant force over fences.
  • The track at Brighton is an undulating run with sharp bends to navigate, making it a favourable circuit for more agile horses. Trainers Tony Carroll, John Gallagher, Eve Johnson Houghton, Gary Moore and George Baker are the names to look out for on the south coast.
  • Yarmouth is nicely flat and is considered a fair setting in the main. Galloping horses can often be the ones to back in Norwich. Trainers William Haggas, John & Thady Gosden and Michael Bell have all had 20 or more wins at Yarmouth over the last five flat seasons at the course.
