Horse Racing Tips, Predictions & Best Bets – 29/08

MansionBet - Horse Racing Best Bets

Thursday’s race card features meetings at Carlisle, Chelmsford, Ffoas Las, Newbury, Southwell and Navan across the UK and Ireland, offering punters a major chance at pocketing some profit again.

Yesterday, we continued our prolific streak by tipping another winner (Cognisance, Kempton), while another of our three tips placed (Profiteer, Catterick). Check out our latest horse racing betting tips below.

Best Tip #1:  Transcendental – Navan, 15:00

Eddie Lynam’s in-form Keke would have been be the one to back in what should be a race of real interest at Navan.

Wins at Navan, Down Royal and the Curragh allowed the 4-year-old to complete a hattrick before today’s outing and having been inched up just 3lb by the assessors since his last triumph, Keke had a nice mark to work with over the same trip here before he was withdrawn.

Gavin Cromwell’s Transcendental, who has been well backed on other betting sites for horse racing, gets the nod instead.

A winner here back in April, he warmed up for today’s bid with a close second at Bellewstown two days ago and a repeat of that performance could be enough to put him in the frame for success again here.

Best Tip #2: Star Of Saint James – Carlisle, 14:18

Star Of Saint James is hattrick hunting today following successive wins at Nottingham and Redcar since the end of July and with Miss Stephanie Dorey retained for the saddle, the pair could be tough to beat at Carlisle.

The 7-year-old has work to do to overcome a 9lb rise in the ratings, though his form on this ground is solid and he should be a player again.

King Sharja is another feasibly treated entry who could make some noise. Back-to-back wins at Beverley were achieved on his last two outings and today’s 7f race covers the same distance.

Softer ground might not suit today, though he has moved up just 4lb since last time and has got to be in with a shout for Ruth Carr.

Best Roughie: Great Max – Southwell, 18:14

Several decent contenders catch the eye here, though Great Max gets the nod ahead of his bid to seal a hattrick. David O’Meara’s 5-year-old won by two lengths at Doncaster 12 days ago and at Haydock before that and has looked more comfortable in Class 5 company in general.

Stepping back up in grade today poses a challenge, though he could be ready to step back up and Great Max has solid claims.

Kodi Lion meanwhile, is a sharper-priced alternative on the best betting apps in the UK. The 3-year-old is 1-2-1-3 from his last four races with wins at Catterick and Newcastle achieved over 6f and 7f respectively.

There could be more promise to unlock from Charlie Fellowes’s charge today and Kodi Lion is listed among those expected to set the standard.

Stats and Insights

  • With testing conditions common, Navan can be a challenging course to get around and stamina can be a useful attribute there. Jockeys Shane Foley, Seamie Heffernan and WJ Lee are involved in today’s meeting and all three know what it takes to win at Navan.
  • The track at Carlisle is a pear-shaped run and the winning post arrives at the crest of a long, gentle incline. Trainers Tim Easterby, KR Burke, Kevin Ryan, Richard Fahey and Keith Dalgleish have all enjoyed success at Carlisle over the last five flat seasons.
  • Build on a fibresand surface, the track at Southwell is filled deep and that can have an energy-sapping effect on horses there. Trainer Michael Appleby has lodged an unmatched 76 wins at Southwell over the last five campaigns at the All-Weather track.
