Horse Racing Tips, Predictions & Best Bets – 28/08

MansionBet - Horse Racing Best Bets

Races at Catterick, Musselburgh, Bellewstown, Worcester and Kempton across the UK and Ireland combine to fill out Wednesday’s race card and as per the usual routine, we’ve compiled a collection of horse racing betting tips for the day’s action below.

Yesterday, our three picks returned a placed horse (Royal Eagle, Bellewstown) and yet another winner (Kinetic, Mussleburgh), so let’s hope for more of the same today.

Best Tip #1:  Cognisance – Kempton, 19:00

On paper at least, this race lacks a bit of depth in terms of quality and that could allow Cognisance to maintain the promising start to her career with a second win on the spin.

The 3-year-old, who represents William Haggas’s stable, looked more than useful when winning on her debut at Redcar last time out and despite carrying a 7lb penalty into today’s race, the filly could deliver again.

Elsewhere, Andrew Balding’s Leadman could offer an alternative on online horse racing betting sites.

Still lightly raced, he hasn’t quite realised his potential just yet, though there were signs of promise on his only outing of the year so far at Southwell (2nd) ten days ago and with Oisin Murphy booked for the saddle another bold bid could be launched.

Best Tip #2: Profiteer – Catterick, 17:30

Son of Profitable, the aptly named Profiteer came close to scoring in his grade twice in his last two runs and lost by just 1/2l when last seen at Thirsk earlier this month.

He has been nudged up just 2lb in the ratings today and has shown enough consistency over the summer to suggest he can have a big say in today’s Class 6 race at Catterick.

Howzak meanwhile, could be another name to consider when dropping down in grade. The 6-year-old is a reliable sprinter whose most recent success came over 6 at Chepstow in June.

He heads to Catterick with a workable mark today and has decent credentials on his first appearance for a new yard. Howzak holds a decent amount of interest here.

Best Roughie: Inforapenny – Bellewstown, 17:18

Inforapenny has earned both of his previous wins over C&D at this track, including his last outing on July 6th.

The 8-year-old, who runs out of Mark Fahey’s in-form stable, was assertive and held off a dispute late on over 2m 4f last time out and a repeat performance isn’t out of the question in the same conditions today. Inforapenny remains on an attractive mark and gets the nod.

Leading Lion makes his handicap debut for Gordon Elliott and could be worth a market check on betting apps. He showed flashes of ability without winning in flat races over the summer, though he could be better suited to jumps.

Gavin Cromwell’s Shana Cloon has been in the frame regularly this year (2-3-2-2) and should also be thereabouts.

Stats and Insights

  • The track at Kempton is a speedy setting and generally pace is a better attribute to have there than stamina. Trainers Nicky Henderson and Paul Nicholls have been the most dominant duo at Kempton over the last few campaigns.
  • The undulations and sharp bends at Catterick tend to suit the front runners, while previous experience of the circuit can be useful. Trainer Tim Easterby had more wins (44) at Catterick than anyone else over the last five seasons.
  • There are awkward turns at both ends of the track at Bellewstown, while conditions there tend to be on the quick side. Trainers Gavin Cromwell and Gordon Elliott have both achieved double-figure wins at Bellewstown over the last five jumps seasons in Meath.
