Horse Racing Tips, Predictions & Best Bets – 26/08

MansionBet - Horse Racing Best Bets

Monday’s race card looks extra busy this week thanks to the UK bank holiday with meetings at Cartmel, Chepstow, Epsom Downs, Ripon and Southwell from that side of the bond combining with Irish events at Ballinrobe and Downpatrick to pack the schedule.

Yesterday, we landed another winner thanks to Lincoln Rockstar’s success at Beverley while another of our selections, Blue Prince, placed at Goodwood from a tipped price of 8/1. View our latest horse racing betting tips below.

Best Tip #1:  Lady Flora – Chepstow, 15:35

Progressive filly Lady Flora shaped up well to win over C&D on her second-last outing at Chepstow and returned to the same track over the same 1m trip earlier this month to finish second.

She has moved up 4lb after two excellent showings, though Andrew Balding’s charge is likely to be right in the mix again and gets the nod.

Kalama Sunrise, who is the ante-post favourite on horse racing betting sites, is the obvious danger.

A record of three wins and two runner-up finishes from her last five races makes for interesting reading and her last triumph came at Chelmsford just 11 days ago. Another bold bid is expected from the 4-year-old here.

Best Tip #2: Mordor – Ballinrobe, 17:40

The versatile Mordor has been in top form this summer and already has two hurdles and a flat win under his belt since July. His hurdling successes came at Sligo and Killarney over ranging distances, proving that Gordon Elliott’s charge has the flexibility to perform in several disciplines.

His record from his last five efforts is 2-1-1-2-1 and Mordor will expect to set the standard again at Ballinrobe.

Miss J Harrington’s Pigeon House could be another name to shortlist. He hasn’t won since beating all at the Punchestown Festival over 2m in May, though consistency has been there in defeat.

The 4-year-old finished 6.5l behind Mordor at Galway on July 29th and will need to find extra in today’s rematch, however, he still warrants respect.

Best Roughie: Spirit Of Leros – Ripon, 15:12

A relatively small field of seven will contest the third race of the day at Ripon and that could enhance Spirit Of Leros’s chance of launching a bid as an outsider with a big price on betting apps.

A winner at Lingfield over 6f in June, the 2-year-old looks out of sorts at Newbury (8th) in July before bouncing back to win at the same track ten days ago. With headgear retained today, he could offer something while stepping up in class.

Soldier’s Heart meanwhile, did the business in a C&D novice race just nine years ago at Ripon and that was his second win in as many races since mid-June.

Representing a yard that tends to do well in this race (S&E Crisford), Soldier’s Heart has more than solid credentials again. Shadow Army is another who takes promising form into this one and should also be involved.

Stats and Insights

  • Undulations at Chepstow are on the unkind side and they can knock galloping horses out of their rhythm. Trainers Tony Carroll, Rod Millman, Archie Watson, David Evans and John O’Shea have been the best of the bunch at Chepstow over the last five seasons.
  • The final flourish at Ballinrobe is downhill, so horses with extra pace can build up a real head of steam in the closing stages of races there. John Patrick Ryan, Gordon Elliott, Willie Mullins, PJ Rothwell and Thomas Gibney are the trainers to track closely at Ballinrobe.
  • Generally, we like our horses to be drawn high at Ripon, though soft conditions can usually do away with the draw bias at the track. Several jockeys have decent records at Ripon, though nobody can match David Allan, who has won 51 times at the track over the last five flat campaigns.
