Horse Racing Tips, Predictions & Best Bets – 23/06

MansionBet - Horse Racing Best Bets

Sunday’s race card line-up is a light affair with only three meetings across the UK at Ffos Las, Hexham and Pontefract to sink our teeth into. Yesterday, fortune wasn’t on our side and two of our three selections were listed as non-runners. We’re determined to fare better today however, and to that end, we’ve listed our latest horse racing betting tips below.

Best Tip #1:  Kalma Sunrise – Ffos Las, 16:10

Since the donning of cheekpieces, Kalma Sunrise has gone up a few levels and Jack Channon’s filly managed to win on both starts with headgear on.

Her most recent success at Chepstow on Monday was achieved by a four-length winning margin and despite being hit by a penalty today, she should have enough in the tank to push for a hattrick.

Dappled Light has the credentials to offer a challenge to our prime pick according to some horse racing betting sites in the UK, though the 4-year-old was already beaten by Kalma Sunrise a couple of weeks back and might not have the gumption to exact revenge.

The rest of the field is relatively uninspiring, so stick with Kalma Sunrise here.

Best Tip #2: Better Be Definite – Hexham, 14:48

Better Be Definite returns to Hexham in excellent form having won twice in three starts and he is taken to maintain his positive trajectory here.

The 6-year-old followed up a win at Ayr with a run to second at Hexham over 2m 7f, though he bounced back to win at today’s venue shortly after over the same trip and he should be open to more progress.

Elsewhere, Breakdance Kid is another recent success story at Hexham having won there as recently as June 15th.

He drops back in trip today and moves up 6lb in the weights, however, if he puts it all together again, he could be right in the mix. Lady Hamilton has decent course experience and could be an each-way shout.

Best Roughie: Vera Verto – Pontefract, 15:00

Vera Verto represents prolific Irish trainer Gavin Cromwell in today’s Pontefract Castle Fillies’ Stakes and despite being priced down the reckoning on betting apps, she could have what it takes to make a big impact.

She’s only raced once (at Navan) since the Spring, though wins at Listowel and Newmarket in the Autumn in tough races showed her quality and she could showcase that again today.

River of Stars is the odds-on favourite in the current ante-post markets, though she has plenty to prove and prices are better elsewhere.

Scenic is a more attractive proposition, especially if the form that earned the 4-year-old first place at Kempton on May 8th can be recaptured. She was in Listed company last summer and has pedigree behind her.

Stats and Insights

  • With easy bends to get around and lengthy strides to surge down, Ffos Las is a setting for galloping types. Trainers Andrew Balding, Ralph Beckett and Hughie Morrison all have excellent win rates from races at Ffos Las over the last five seasons.
  • Hexham is a challenging run for most with plenty of undulations and a taxing uphill finish to overcome. Jockeys Brian Huges, Danny McMenamin, Sam Coltherd and Jamie Hamilton are always worth your time when riding at Hexham.
  • Stamina is the watchword at Pontefract due to the inclined final three furlongs at the circuit. Trainers Tim Easterby and Richard Fahey have both enjoyed 20 or more wins at Pontefract over the last five seasons in West Yorkshire.
