Horse Racing Tips, Predictions & Best Bets – 17/05

MansionBet - Horse Racing Best Bets

Yesterday we hit the post three times when each of our three selections placed, though our 8/1 long-shot Shawaamekh’s run to second would have returned some decent profit for each-way bettors. On Friday, we have meetings at Aintree, Hamilton, Newbury, Newmarket, York, Kilbeggan and Leopardstown to dissect and you can check out our free tips for the day’s horse racing action below.

Best Tip #1:  Roaring Legend – Aintree, 15:45

Wind surgery seems to have done the business for Roaring Legend and Olly Murphy’s talented gelding finally broke his duck with an impressive surge to first at Chepstow over hurdles last month.

That win could be the start of better things to come for the 4-year-old and he is taken to score in his sphere again ahead of the rest on the day’s first race at Aintree.

Havana Party meanwhile, has also been turning heads on online horse racing betting sites. He’s been delivering the goods in flat races this year and is unbeaten in the same after two races since returning to action in February.

The 6-year-old should be able to transfer his stamina to hurdles today and he has credentials if he can find his step.

Best Tip #2: Cardinal Zin – Leopardstown, 16:50

The second race in today’s meeting at Leopardstown could offer the improving Cardinal Zin the opportunity to score for the first time.

The 3-year-old has competed twice this year and finished second on each occasion and the Make Believe gelding could have what it takes to win this time around. A mark of 82 looks favourable and conditions should also suit.

Solomon Coop is shaping up as another improver with some merit. He didn’t pull up trees in the Autumn but the 3-year-old looked stronger when last seen in April, running to a solid second place in a Maiden Auction at Gowran Park. He steps up in distance today and that could aid his chances of going one better.

More too is expected from Ridhaz, who showed promise on his single showing last year (Naas, 4th).

Best Roughie: Miss Lamai – York, 14:15 10/1

Trainer Karl Burke has thrown three contenders into the mix for today’s renewal of the Clipper EBF Marygate Fillies’ Stake at York. Burke won this event in each of the last two years and Miss Lamai could offer the best chance of a hattrick.

The 2-year-old really caught the eye on her debut last month when she won at Thirsk and a repeat of that run could push her into contention off a big price here.

Miss Lamai might have to get in front of Running Queen to deliver. Ollie Sangster’s charge won well at Salisbury on May 5th and with Oisin Murphy booked for the saddle today, a follow up victory could be within range.

It Ain’t Two, who won at Newmarket when last seen, is another name for shortlists, though market movement on betting apps should dictate there.

Stats and Insights

  • Home of the Grand National, the track at Aintree is laid out in a triangular shape and the fences there are arguably the toughest on the entire UK racing circuit. Trainers Dan Skelton and Paul Nicholls have enjoyed plenty of success at Aintree over the last five years.
  • The track at Leopardstown is a left-handed run with gentle bends, and with little to slow horses down, gallopers can excel there. Jockey Colin Keane has posted 58 wins at Leopardstown over the last five seasons, while Shane Foley has been the next-best performer with 39 wins there over the last half a decade.
  • York is another track for galloping types and the sweeping bends and lengthy final straight can favour horses with pace. William Haggas is listed among the more successful trainers at York over the last 5 seasons, winning with 32 of his 176 entrants at the course.
