A 400m maiden competition hits the same stage while there is some excellent supporting action.
Bob’s Your Uncle, Angela’s Your Aunty
The first semi-final of the Essex Vase at 20.17 can see Coolavanny Aunty go one place better than she did in the heats last week for Angela Harrison. She was not quite able to find her way around the winner, kept on the outside from early on.
She has less early pace to clear now which can see her out and on the bunny early. A lead will be required to hold off the powerful Night Time Danny but that hound wouldn’t be the best berthed on the rails.
Harrison to Double up With Bani
Coolavanny Bani can make it a quick double for Harrison in the 20.38. She was unable to live with Warzone Tom last week but kept plugging away around the inside which didn’t look the place to be.
She should be all the better for that first competitive action here and as a Category 1 winner last year over a stayers trip and a finalist at the same level over four bends, she is a remarkably versatile performer.
Rodney Looks a Dapper Bet
There is lots of early pace in the third semi at 20.54 so Dapper Rodney looks the way to go from his draw right on the inside. He has taken really well to this new trip having made the Eclipse final over 500m at Nottingham late last year.
Just run down last week by Night Time Danny, there is no disgrace in that. He’s a big boy and can use his size to his advantage to make himself some room at the opening turn before kicking away for Nathan Hunt.
Florican to Enjoy the Return to Eight Bends
Hunt is another trainer who can have multiple winners on the card. Florican Trend has not quite gotten back to her best since coming back from season but the return to this trip is going to help.
She is a veteran now but her level of form over this 750m test in the past makes her the one they all have to beat in the final race of the night at 21.42.
Logan to Build on Impressive Success
The 19.36 sees Corrin Logan trying to back up his superb win from last week for Dave Lee. Given the inside wasn’t the place to be for the majority of last Friday’s card, the fact he bolted up in 23.97 from the red jacket was eye-catching.
That is the best run of his life so he has to prove that he can back it up but he has only had ten races in his career so there could easily be a touch more to come from him.
