Bandy is a niche winter sport that draws inspiration from ice hockey, field hockey and football.
It is played on the ice but uses a ball akin to its field variant. It is second only to hockey in terms of overall winter sports participation.
Bandy is popular all over the world, especially in Europe and Russia. It isn’t an Olympic sport but has garnered a fair deal of support to become one in the future. A bandy demonstration was held at the 1952 Olympic Games.
One of the biggest competitions is the Bandy World Championship. This tournament was created in 1957 and is hosted by the Federation of International Bandy. The World Championship has grown every year since its inception.
